Archaeological site of Ambrussum
During your stay at the Camping Domaine de Gajanne, don’t miss the visit of Ambrussum, an ancient Gallic oppidum of 5.6 hectares occupied by the Romans and then by the Gallo-Romans; located on the Domitian Way which linked Rome to Cadiz, in the commune of Villetelle. During the Iron Age (vii– iie century BC), Ambrussum is one of the main oppida (fortified city) of the Mediterranean Celtic. One can come and contemplate the 2000 year old vestiges, such as the rampart which surrounds the hill of Devès, or the Ambroix bridge which allowed to cross the Vidourle river since the first century B.C. The site museum retraces the history of Ambrussum, from the first occupations by Man to the archaeological excavations carried out until today.
It will take you only 15 minutes to get to the site of Ambrussum (9 kms).
